Many organisations consider their employees’ sexual orientation and identity a private matter. But whether it’s small talk at the coffee machine or at company parties: the standard idea of a heterosexual partnership is usually simply assumed. As a human resources professional, your goal should be to create an open working environment without bias or prejudice. In that way everyone can make use of their talents and expertise.
What you can do
- Support your employees if they would like to set up or involve networks or interest groups at work.
- Involve employees with varied sexual identities to better reach out to new target groups or in marketing decisions.
- Foster an organisational culture in which no one has to justify his or her own sexual identity or orientation.
